Habit Elimination ProgramThis program is designed to help your child quit negative oral habits such as thumb/finger sucking, nail biting and or lip licking in a positive and fun manner without the use of punitive habit appliances. This program builds confidence and self esteem in your child as they watch themselves give up addicting habits.
Therapy may begin as young as four years of age. |
Myofunctional TherapyMyofunctional Therapy involves the patient exercising the orofacial complex throughout the day to improve tone and strength. Without improved tone and strength we cannot train the muscles where to rest and how to function correctly.
Therapy generally takes twelve to fourteen sessions to help eliminate low tongue posture, lip incompetence (mouth breathing) and/or incorrect chewing and swallowing habits. However, the length of therapy is dependent on the severity of the OMD and the compliance of the patient throughout the program. Pre and Post Frenectomy care is included in the Myofunctional Therapy Program. We recommend pre and post therapy sessions for those undergoing frenectomy surgery. To prevent tissue from reattaching after the frenectomy, we recommend a pre surgery visit to learn stretching exercises. This will ensure the tissues heal well without returning to their initial state. It is recommended to begin therapy 4-6 weeks prior to the release. After the procedure, we recommend continuing with Myofunctional Therapy to train the tongue and lips where to rest and how to function correctly. Noxious habits such as finger or thumb sucking, nail biting and/or lip licking must be eliminated prior to initiating the Myofunctional Therapy Program. |
Mini MyoMini Myo sessions are tailored for younger children, typically between the ages of 4 and 6. It is designed to be shorter and more engaging, taking into account the attention span and developmental needs of young children. The program focuses on age-appropriate exercises and playful activities to address early signs of oral and facial muscle issues, and encourage healthy oral habits. The goal is to intervene early and establish good muscle function for optimal oral, facial and airway growth and development.
